The rogue group of bloggers who are celebrating prematurely on the passage of AB2072 in the committee is misinformed or is giving misleading information that they won against us.

Yes, AB2072 passed, BUT the 3 demands were AMENDED! FOR US. Audiologist goes out as first source of information which is outstanding! What needs worked on is to recognize ASL as the ONLY visual language by re-defining the meaning of "language." Instead of CDNAIS, CDE will oversee the program. CDE is more focused on education and has strong background with the deaf.
A taskforce has been proceeded to begin working on the ASL part of the amendment. They will reconvene and proceed to tie up on this bill at a later time. The first and third demands are accepted as is which is OUR victory!
No, don't rest on your laurels! Work with the taskforce to monitor this bill to ensure it passes into law as accepted upon today without hidden revisions and such.
So, you rogue group, go ahead and celebrate if you think you've won just because this bill did not die on the floor as you thought we wanted for it to happen. We would if the senators had refused to accept those 3 demands, but they surprised us and accepted them as amendments to this bill which translated into a victory for us!
I chuckled at those rogue bloggers prematurely brayed "Victory". Finally we are getting recognition in political bullpen and we will not go away.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that the two rogue(deaf detractors) bloggers, Barry Sewell and Mike McConnell had opened their champagne bottle already without reading the amended bill.
ReplyDeleteThese two "deaf traitors" have done more harm to the Deaf community with their bashing of CAD, CENIAS, NAD, DBC, NORCAL, DCARA and other Deaf organizations.

ReplyDeleteWhy then did Senator Romero voted against the bill at the end of the day? Initially Senator Romero took sides with the opponents of the bill and spoke against the bill. And yet at the end of the day she voted against the bill.
If the turn of event actually favored the people that opposed the bill initially then surely Senator Romero would have voted 'yes' for it but she didn't. Anybody want to try and answer this one?
Regardless, I'll shed several important facts here. 1) The bill passed the hearing stage. The information given to the parents will still include ALL COMMUNICATION OPTIONS. That was the opponents' main sticking point. Don't tell me you forgot. They wanted to kill the bill because of it. 2) The audiologist will still be the source for parents to receive written information from. And according to the Senators at the hearing they acknowledged parents' rights to discuss options with audiologists if the parents sought to discuss the matters with them. The Senators realized they do not have the power to place 'gag orders' on audiologists. Of course, the opposition side did not tell you this.
Victory for those who opposed the bill? Could not help it but felt sorry for the desperate party. In case you are still confused, kindly do yourself a favor and ask Senator Romero why she voted against the bill at the end of the day.

Yup. Thanks for clarifying this for other readers and especially for certain dum dum who shot themselves in their foot in DeafRead. Gasp! Deaf people can actually make a difference in the political forum in California. Waving buh bye slowly to the non-residents. It's a good day for future parents to receive UNBIASED information to raise their deaf child.
ReplyDeleteRLM....sadly Mike McConnell DOES have a daughter and *gasp* she is DEAF! Of course Mike went the oral route with his daughter. He claimed to teach her ASL on a vlog once but I question whether they actually communicate in ASL on daily basis.

The bottom line is the senators, doesn't matter WHO, accepted those demands and amended them to the bill. That is the ONLY important thing about this whole AB2072 process. WHO made it happen? I hope that Mike's deaf daughter will diss and blast her own father - "Why, why, why you tend to go against the grains of the deaf community on pivotal issues.
That surely remninds me much of Edwin Booth, prominent deaf editor of public newspaper. His CODA son turned against him in favor of oralism.
